No Pay Hump Day is intended to be a coordinated effort to remind our government and corporate leaders that “we the people” are actually the ones in charge.
This is a simple addition, a weekly action through non-action. Postpone purchases one day a week. Still go to work, do what you need to survive, while also joining together to send a message. The hope is this will become a growing and persistent thorn in the side of our authoritarian overlords and their oligarch handlers.
If you are upset with what is happening in our country and don’t know where to start, if you are losing track of the boycotts and companies you do not want to support, then ensure you are not supporting them on Wednesdays. Postpone your purchasing. Pace yourself, this is not a sprint. Start small and go from there!
For the people, by the people:
Things are getting weird quickly here in the U.S. Trump is dismantling our democracy, billionaires are emboldened to pillage, and ICE is emboldened to abuse. There is a seemingly endless list of causes and issues we wish to support, and injustices we wish to oppose.
What do we do:
Meanwhile, most of us do nothing. As Americans, we’ve been trained for generations to do nothing. We are really good at it. For many of us, it takes all we have to just get by, and we don’t have time or energy left to do anything else. That’s a feature not a bug of American society. So how can we turn that around?
That’s why No Pay Hump Day is so perfect. It harnesses the power of doing nothing. Channel your ongoing frustration with the government into ongoing nothingness. It’s a weekly outlet to show the raw power of doing nothing.
How it works:
Fight tyranny weekly by doing nothing. Buy nothing, pay for nothing, do nothing, EVERY Wednesday. That’s it. Take a day off from spending, online shopping, and billionaire-owned social media. Take a day off from feeding the MAGA beast taking over the U.S.
Reschedule things, push things back a day, whatever it takes. Just don’t pay on Wednesday.
This is not intended to replace protesting, general strikes, boycotting, calling your representatives, voting, or any other actions you are doing to stand up for what you believe in.
Why?:
Yes, it seems silly to just postpone paying for something, but we are sending a coordinated message. We are learning that our united spending power is far greater than theirs. We are learning to become united. United against authoritarianism. United against injustice. We are reminding the lawless few working against the masses that the masses actual have more power.
Next:
Hopefully, we will get the hang of working together as the people, for the people. Hopefully, this can be an easy first step for those feeling lost or a helpful addition to those already fighting tyranny.
